Weekly Message

Good afternoon!

I hope all is well! It has been another fantastic week at Columbia Elementary.  It is great to see our students develop each and everyday.  It is great to see each of them continue to develop as we progress through the school year.  We still have a lot of work to do! There is no doubt that we are heading in the right direction.

Please enjoy your weekly updates below and I hope to see you at our PTO Meeting on Tuesday at 7pm in our library.

A Special Thank You!

A special thank you to everyone that came out last night and this morning to install a sidewalk between the Outdoor Learning Pavilion and our school.  We truly appreciate, The Kaufmans, The Fannings, The Frazers, The Millers, The McMahons, The Woods, Ellis Brothers' Concrete, Ohio Rental, and all of the various other friends of our school that made this sidewalk possible for our students and community. Without any of you this project would not have been possible:

COSI On Wheels-Energy:

COSI (Center of Science and Industry) brought their Energy Program to Columbia Elementary on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 to introduce students to the science of energy. The program consisted of a 45 minute interactive assembly followed by exciting hands-on activities that engage the students, and encourage the development of Science Process Skills. In the assembly, the COSI Educator introduced the concepts of potential and kinetic energy, forces, and transferring energy. With the COSI Educator, students explored how objects transfer energy and use different contact forces to complete one big chain reaction. The assembly was followed by 60 minute hands-on activity sessions where each station was led by parent volunteers.  During these hands-on sessions, students further enhanced their knowledge of energy by exploring potential and kinetic energy, designing and engineering chain reactions, creating circuits, exploring the impact of friction and mass on an object’s movement, and more.  This is the third year that the Columbia Elementary has provided the COSI on Wheels program for our students. The program provides a way to introduce dynamic science topics, enhance science inquiry skills, and encourage continued learning. Our students continue to gain new knowledge and a renewed love for science each year.
