Weekly Blog 8-28-15

Good afternoon!

I hope everyone is doing well! We have had a great week here at Columbia Elementary.  It is such an exciting time as we are off to a great start to the 2015-16 School Year.  This week our students are engaged in their academics.

I would like to share with you a few more important updates:

1) A Special Thank You!
We are so appreciative of Trent Kaufman (Upper Arlington Fire Fighter), Fire Chief Chad Christopher, and the MVFD for coming out today and supporting our Kindergarten Students.  Every year, I greatly enjoy working with all of these individuals and our students in teaching the importance of Fire Prevention and Fire Safety.

All of us want each family to create and talk about a safe meeting spot in case of a house fire.  This meeting place can save lives (including adults, children, and Fire Fighters)

2) Quarterly Academic Goals for ALL Students:

As we do every nine weeks, this nine weeks, each grade level has the following English Language Arts, Math, and Behavior/Attendance quarterly goals:

English Language Arts:
(Each Quarter)-80% of ALL Students will meet their INDIVIDUAL English Language Arts Goal (including reading).

Math:
(Each Quarter) 80% of ALL Students will meet their INDIVIDUAL Math Goal.

Attendance and Behavior

80% of all students in the grade level less than 5 absences/tardies and 3 or less office discipline write ups (each quarter)

If the students in each grade level accomplish these goals during this quarter, they will get extra recess with me. For the Primary Grades, we will be going to the "big kids" playground.

3) Show Your Tiger Pride:

As a part of building our Columbia Elementary Community and supporting our Character and Leadership program, we are currently selling "Tiger Up" Columbia Elementary to our students for $8.

You can also have your very own Columbia Elementary Yard Sign for $5.  Let your neighbors know you are a Tiger!

Order forms are going home today.  Please make all checks out to The Columbia Elementary PTO.

4) Beginning of the year paperwork and School Fees-for the safety of our students and importance of this school year, we need to make sure that ALL Students have ALL paperwork turned in to our office and ALL School Fees paid. If there is any family that would like to arrange making payments through our office towards school fees, please be sure contact Darcy Miller or myself at anytime..

5) Twitter:  Be sure to follow us and your grade level/s on Twitter.  CLICK HERE to learn more about using and setting up a Twitter Account.  I am asking each of our grade levels to set up a Twitter Account to keep you posted about specific updates related to that specific grade level.  Twitter is also a great way to learn more about a specific topic and keep up on timely information.

Be sure to follow: @Columbia_Tiger, @drmjdill, @MVCSD_SUPT, @MVCSD_Treasurer

It is very important to us to keep you informed!
