Good morning!

I hope everyone is doing well! I want to first thank the 203 people that follow our blog last week.  It means a lot to have you a part of the Columbia Elementary Family! It has been a fantastic week with your children.  We continue to be impressed by their work in our classrooms.  My favorite moment this week was when I saw our Kindergarteners learning how to subtract through bowling:

It's all about learning in different ways....Great job!!

Grades 3 & 4-Goals Met for The Second Nine Weeks:

On Friday, we celebrated the success of our Third and Fourth Graders by playing Dodgeball at the end of the day.  Check out these intense pictures below as they not only work hard in the classroom, but they also get serious on the Dodgeball Court:

We had a blast!! Their hard work does pay off...:)

Be Sure to Get Your 2015-16 Yearbook:

Don't miss out on ordering yearbooks! It's a great way to look back at the school year. The deadline is February 5th. You can order online here:book.hrimaging.com or send a form in to school.”

UPDATE: State Testing Reward for Students that passed ALL Sections of The State Test for the 14-15 School Year:

As you may recall, I had promised the students last year that they would get a pool party if they passed all parts of their state tests. The State Department of Education through a wrench in this plan by delaying the release of those scores and debating on what the best way was to test our students, Summer quickly became winter for this planned outdoor pool party...not good....As I wanted to keep my word to the students, we had to go to a "Plan B."

With the support of our PTO, we are renting a Video Game Truck that will hold a maximum of 20 students per time.  In this game truck the students will be able to play: Smash Brothers, Football, Basketball, Mario Cart, Minecraft and other school appropriate games.  Since there are a approximately 50 students (current Students at Columbia) that passed ALL Sections of their State Tests. We will need to divide these students into three smaller groups.  These smaller groups will be assigned a 40 minute time period between 1:30-3:30pm on February 5th. This should be fun! More details will come. Again, I truly appreciate the PTO's support in these efforts!

Follow Up Talk with Grades 3-5 about Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs-February 19:

Officer Ruth, a Columbia Elementary Parent, has graciously offered to meeting with our students in Grades 3-5 on February 19th to further discuss the facts about Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs.  As Sheriff Shaffer did a fantastic job with our entire school this past month, we felt following this presentation that the older students still had remaining questions and things that they wanted to discuss further. Taking this moment as a learning opportunity, we felt it would be valuable to follow up with the older students for a deeper discussion. This discussion will take place on February 19th at 2:45pm.  Please know we encourage all parents to attend.
