Why is it important for our students to do well on State Tests?
Despite your political view, state testing plays several vital roles in the world of public education. How a student performs on the state test provides the district, school, administrator, teacher, parent, and student with important information about how well they are doing in relation to the State Prescribed Academic Contents Standards in their grade level. This means that we, as educators, are better able to serve their needs based on these results for the school days that follow this data. As we, as educators, try to tailor our instruction for our students, this data can affect the academic programming that a specific student receives. If a student were to blow off this test as not being important, the school could misunderstand the student's true needs. Just like a Doctor runs specific tests to tailor their treatment for each and everyone of us when we have a doctor's appointment, these State Tests are piece of that same process for those of us working in education for our students.
The results of these tests also have a direct impact on the relationship between the State and Federal Governments and our school. The results of these state tests will dictate the mandates that the state places on both our district and school. Our students play a huge role in this process.
Ultimately we know that we have the Best and the Brightest at Columbia Elementary. These State Tests give our students a voice in showing the rest of the world our students' level of intelligence. It is one thing for all of us to say this at Columbia Elementary, but it is something much greater for the world to see our students' success. We know our student are capable of achieving great heights! This is where the rubber meets the road and their Super Bowl has arrived! We expect nothing but excellence and success! It is time to TIGER UP!
Attendance During State Testing:
It is very important on everyday that our students are on time and present to school. Please that if your child shows up to school late on a testing day, he/she will not be allowed in the testing area and will be scheduled to take the State Test at a later time on that date or on a different day. The student will be in the office doing school work until all other students have completed their testing (approximately 90 minutes in length).
