Tiger Newsflash-8-7-16

8-7-16

Good morning!

We are very excited to get your children back in our classrooms at Columbia Elementary!  While we are continuing to put last finish touches on our building and plans for this school year, our hallways are awaiting your children's voices, smiles, and laughter as they return on Wednesday, August 17th. Over the summer, our Columbia Elementary Team, have been polishing our skills and strategies to have an improved school year for our students.  Over the summer, we received notice from The Ohio Department of Education that we want to report.  We met 8 of the 9 State Indicators during the 2015-16 School Year.  While this is good news, we are going to continue focusing on excellence.

In this blog, I want to highlight some information that you will be soon receiving through regular mail to get your mind set and help you prepare for the upcoming weeks:

Free and Reduced Lunch Application: You will be receiving a Free and Reduced Lunch Application in the mail. It is very important that you fill out the attached Free and Reduced Lunch Application.  While this application information is kept confidential, this federal document dictates many support systems that schools receive for instructional purposes (i.e. Title I Intervention Services), and eligibility for granted dollars. Personal and identifiable information is always kept confidential. Please make sure this application is returned to school on August 17th to your child’s classroom teacher (1 per family).

Parent Portal-Have you ever been tired of filling out our beginning of the year paperwork for all of your children multiple times? We have now improved this process for you.  All parents will now go through our school district website at www.mvcsd.us.  Instructions and information can be found on the enclosed OneView Parent Portal letter.  You can either await your student/s’ Student ID Number/Access Code that we are sending you in the mail or call or email Mrs.Darcy Miller to receive it ahead of time at 1-740-393-5975 or dmiller@mvcsd.us.. :

Once you are registered, you will have the ability to fill out all required beginning of the school year paperwork and link all of your children to it (without doing it multiple times).  This system will also show you your child’s bus route, school news, and many other exciting things.  Each year or at anytime, you will have the ability to update this information electronically.

Bus Routes:  Your child's bus route information will be relayed to you in the coming days via letter in the mail and an attempted phone call from our office. You will also be able to see this information through your new Parent Portal Login.

Back To School Celebration: On Tuesday August 16th from 6-7pm, we will be having a Back to School Celebration.  At 6pm, everyone will be meeting in our gym to kick off our 16-17 School Year. Afterwards. there will be an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher to see the classroom. It will be great to see everyone again! During this time we will have chromebooks (laptops) available for those of you that need internet access to fill out your parent portal beginning of the year required information.

2016 Clothing Drive: On August 11th ,12th, 15th, and 16th, there will be a clothing drive in our gym from 8am to 4pm.  This clothing drive is for the entire community of Mount Vernon.  During this drive, our community members will expect to find clothing and other items that may be beneficial to their families FREE OF CHARGE.
