Good afternoon!

I hope you are having a great weekend with your family and friends! I woke up today thinking about 15 years ago.  It is hard to believe how fast time goes, but this day 15 years ago forever changed my perspective as an Educator.  I much like you will never forget this day and where we were as we heard the news about our country being attacked:  I was teaching Middle School Spanish in Hamilton Township.  On this day, I remember a little Eighth Grade girl coming into my class at the end of the day crying.  When I asked what was wrong, she told me that her Aunt was in one of the Twin Towers.  WOW!  I quickly realized that the Spanish lesson that I was about ready to give was going to be very insignificant.  At the close of that class and the end of the school day in my classroom, I remember thinking hard and not knowing exactly what to say about what was to come. However it was certain that all of us knew that we all had to stay strong together and move forward as a country. I know we all our proud to live in such a great country and proud of the men and women that died on that day and continue fight everyday to keep our freedoms alive.    

Please know that still to this day this belief system is still our fundamental basis with your children: beyond our lessons, we want to ensure their safety and stability in our classrooms. At Columbia Elementary, we feel that education is very important, but safety is more important.  Please be ensured that we will always have this focus.  On another note, it is hard to believe that our current students were not even in existence during this horrific event.  I am sure this is not a sign that I am getting older...:)

Today is the last day that we are selling Mumkins from Foertmeyer  & Sons Greenhouse.  These Mumkins are fresh, premium products at a good price (CLICK HERE to see promotional video). Be sure to go to www.mumkinsale.com or see your child's Mumkin Packet that is being sent home today to place your order.  Please share this information with your friends by text, email, Facebook and Twitter that we are selling Mumkins now to raise funds for a renovated playground for our students.  Please send your friends and family the above link and have them check out these great products.

There will of course be prizes for our students.  They must sell 15 mumkins to get into the money machine loaded with $200 in CASH.  Whatever they grab they will get to keep.  When they sell their first 2 items, they will win their first toy from the toy box. When they sell 4 items, they will win their second toy (Coupons for toy box included in packet).

All orders will be due to your child's teacher
by Tomorrow, Monday September 12th.

Welcome Back Mrs. Brown!
We are excited to get Mrs. Brown back to Columbia Elementary! While her absence was unexpected, unplanned, and for her family, we are super excited to have her back with our students! She is super excited to be back with them too!! Be sure to welcome her back the next time you see her.

Have you been looking at that space on your counter and thinking about how great it would be to put your child's school picture there for you to look at? It is not too late!!!  Please be sure to get your order and payment in to our office ASAP. Parent Portal Update
We are very proud of all of our parents at Columbia Elementary! We have 100% of you with all of your Beginning of the Year Paperwork done through Parent Portal.  Congrats!! This is the best turnout in the district and the best we have done in years past.  We are extremely proud of all of you! Be sure to keep this information current through your accounts.  Remember in years to come, you will be just simply updating this information instead of inputting all of it.

Columbia Elementary Annual Team Picture-This Friday-9/16.
Reminder to have your children wear their Tiger Up Shirts on Friday, 9/16.  If you ordered a new Tiger Up Shirt, we are expecting them to arrive on Wednesday.  It is great to see all of us in our Tiger Up Shirts together for this Annual Schoolwide Picture.  Just an FYI, this is the same picture we use for our banner in front of our building.  Please contact Mrs. Darcy Miller at 740-393-5975 or email her at dmiller@mvcsd.us if you still would like to order one.
