I hope everyone is having a great weekend with your family and friends during this Labor Day Weekend. It is hard to believe that we have completed three weeks of school already. It has been great this week seeing our students succeed in our classrooms, I want to take a moment and share some weekly updates with you:

As we had a pizza party in my office, I really enjoyed spending time with our students of the month on Friday. We had many great conversations!

Mumkin Sale:
We are in the process of raising funds to renovate our playground especially for our Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade Students. This project will cost in the neighborhood of $50,000 depending on the level of details and features that we want to add this price might increase. We will be soliciting information from our students, staff, and our PTO to get specific details of what we want to be on our new and improved playground. This playground will continue to be for our students at Columbia Elementary, but also for our community after school hours. While we are seeking grants to help fund these efforts, we are also focusing our PTO Fundraising efforts to support this renovation project.

There will of course be prizes for our students. They must sell 15 mumkins to get into the money machine loaded with $200 in CASH. Whatever they grab they will get to keep. When they sell their first 2 items, they will win their first toy from the toy box. When they sell 4 items, they will win their second toy (Coupons for toy box included in packet).

KDG-Third Grade Bus Safety Assembly:
While not all of our students ride school buses to and from school, all of our students need to know the rules and safety guidelines of a school bus (i.e. field trips). Each year, we are required by The State of Ohio to have a school bus safety assembly with our younger students. Last Wednesday, the Bus Drivers and I went over how important it is for our students to stay in their seats and face the front of the school bus while the bus is moving. I reinforced to the students that my expectation is for the bus drivers to focus on the road, and I expect all students to stay seated and not distract the bus driver unless it is an absolute emergency. If the student misbehaves on the bus by being out of their seat and/or not being safe, I will always support the Bus Driver. I shared with the students that I believe this way because we love our students and want them to be safe coming and going from our school each day.

Interim Reports-First Quarter
Due to beginning of the year testing, we are not going to send out Interim Reports for all students this first grading period. We will only be sending out interim reports for those students that are "below grade level" and/or have behavioral concerns. Please contact your child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns.
