Weekly Message

Good afternoon! I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend with your family and friends! This past Friday, we distributed Interim Reports to all students that were receiving a C or Below (or equivalent to) in any of their Core Classes (English Language Arts, Math, Science, or Social Studies). This is a new policy we have adapted for Interim Reports. This past Friday, we also celebrate the success of our students in KDG, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th achieving their Nine Weeks Goals in English, Math, and Behavior.  Their reward was to dance the afternoon away with a live DJ.  We had a blast! Congrats to each of them! Remember we have a lot to accomplish over the next 4 1/2 weeks.  Let's continue to stay focused and finish the 2017-18 School Year COLUMBIA STRONG! Tiger Up! Matt

PTO Meeting-This Tuesday at 7pm We are looking forward to seeing you at our PTO Meeting this Tuesday at 7pm in our library.  If you are unable to attend and want anything discussed, please let us know. State Testing Is Here (Grades 3-5): As the NFL is heading towards their Super Bowl, I want to share with you the dates of our Super Bowl at Columbia Elementary. During this time our students have the opportunity to show the entire State of Ohio that they are truly The Best and The Brightest.  These tests are important to your child as they give us information that will impact instructional decisions for your child for the upcoming school year. Please make a note of the following Super Bowl Dates and make sure your child is rested, prepared, and on time on these dates: Day 1 Day 2 3rd Grade English Language Arts 4/19 4/20 4th Grade English Language Arts 4/12 4/13 5th Grade English Language Arts 4/17 4/18 3rd Grade Math 5/1 5/2 4th Grade Math 4/26 4/27 5th Grade Math 4/24 4/25 5th Grade Science 4/30-AM 4/30-PM WANTED: NEW COLUMBIA ELEMENTARY TIGERS (K-5): Mount Vernon City Schools Open enrollment applications for the 2018-2019 school year will be accepted online only (www.mvcsd.us).  Both current and new Open Enrolled Students will be required to enroll through the online registration process. Parents who are Open Enrolling students to the Mount Vernon City School District must create a  “OneView ” account by selecting the parent icon at the top of the district website and then selecting OneView Parent Portal.  Instructions for setting up a parent account and for open enrollment are located on this page. Applications for new open enrollment requests will be completed online and  submitted beginning April 1, 2018. No new applications will be accepted  prior to April 1, 2018. The deadline for submitting applications is May  15, 2018.  Applicants shall be considered according to board policy and  administrative guidelines relative to open enrollment.  Once submitted you  will receive a time stamped email notification of your intent.  Register Now: Get Ready For Our Annual 5K With Ariel Foundation Park: Theme-Superheros-Participants are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Superhero When-May 11th at Ariel Foundation Park at The Clock House (Rain Date-May 18th) Our Goal: To raise $10,000 in sponsorship for Improving and Replacing  Technology Equipment for Classroom Instruction at Columbia Elementary.   Prizes for: Fastest Man and Woman ($75 each) Fastest Boy and Girl ($25 each) Top 10 Best Superheroes ($5 gift cards each) REGISTER AND PAY BELOW: K-2 Musical: "Where The Wild Things Are"-May 15th at 6:30pm Be sure to come to Faith Baptist Church at 8764 Martinsburg Road to see our K-2 students perform. This will be a wonderful performance spotlighting our children at 6:30pm on May 15th.  We will be providing a shuttle between Twin Oak Elementary and Faith Baptist Church for  extra parking spaces.  This school bus shuttle service will begin at 5:50pm. Reminder: Columbia Elementary Senior Clap Out and Lunch-5/25 On May 25th from 12-1pm, we will be holding our third annual Senior Clap Out for those Seniors that attended Columbia Elementary School.  Please be sure to remind any Columbia Elementary Graduating Senior. They will need to RSVP to Mrs. Miller at 1-740-393-5975 by 5/23/18. Please be sure to bring them to our school and we will donate them for you. Your efforts are very important because The Ronald McDonald House pays their entire electric bill each month through through recycling these pop tabs. PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING:) ! Check out our live and archived MV LIVE STREAM by CLICKING HERE or go to our www.mvcsd.us *We are currently exploring other ways to use this same technology.  BOX TOPS For Education: Collection All Year Long  The PTO will be collecting Box Tops for Education for our school again this year.   This is easy, free money to help support Columbia Elementary in getting supplies for our classrooms or fun treats/events for our students!  They will be hosting a competition amongst the school to see which class can collect the most box tops!  (This will be done four times this year).  Please feel free to bring in the box tops at anytime throughout the school year, and they will be applied towards your child’s classroom collection.  Each quarter, the classroom that brings in the most box tops will earn a reward.  This quarter, the willing classroom will have a PIZZA PARTY Directions: Buy products at the store that contain the box top label Cut them out following the dotted lines on all 4 sides of the label - the box top company is very strict on this! Make sure the box top date has not expired! Glue or tape them to the box top sheet, if you need more sheets, you may copy the sheet or use a separate sheet of paper to tape them or have the school send more home DONT FORGET TO ADD YOUR CHILD’S TEACHER TO YOUR BOX TOP SHEET SO YOUR STUDENT GETS CREDIT FOR THE BOX TOPS THEY TURNED IN.  THEY WILL GO TOWARD A EARNING A CLASS PIZZA PARTY!
