Tiger Newsflash 2-25-18

Weekly Message

Good afternoon!

I hope everyone had an awesome weekend with your family and friends! Last week, we had a terrific week with our students.  It is great to see them grow each and everyday.  I have especially enjoyed seeing them develop with their math and problem solving skills this week.  I have seen students of all ages that have impressed me with their abilities in our classrooms.  We are very proud of their continued progress.  It is vital that we keep this progress going despite some of the worldly events going on around us.

I found this interesting article on Twitter from Parent Co, that I caught my attention.  It is entitled: "Mentally Strong Kids Have Parents Who Refuse to Do These 13 Things (CLICK ON THIS LINK)."  As we want students to build their perseverance and grit to have a successful life, these words spoke to me and I wanted to share.  I hope you find it helpful!

Please enjoy your weekly updates below.

Tiger Up!

SIEMENS Integrates STEM

At Columbia Elementary

On Thursday, Engineers from Siemens came into our Fifth Grade classrooms to further integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, into our lessons.  During that afternoon lessons, our Fifth Grade Students focused on the design process of building bridges.  The students learned about the process and had the opportunity to experiment  different bridge designs with their classmates.

We are very thankful that these Engineers took this time for our students!

BOX TOPS For Education:
Collection All Year Long
The PTO will be collecting Box Tops for Education for our school again this year.   This is easy, free money to help support Columbia Elementary in getting supplies for our classrooms or fun treats/events for our students!  They will be hosting a competition amongst the school to see which class can collect the most box tops!  (This will be done four times this year).  Please feel free to bring in the box tops at anytime throughout the school year, and they will be applied towards your child’s classroom collection.  Each quarter, the classroom that brings in the most box tops will earn a reward.  This quarter, the willing classroom will have a
PIZZA PARTY

Directions:
  • Buy products at the store that contain the box top label
  • Cut them out following the dotted lines on all 4 sides of the label - the box top company is very strict on this!
  • Make sure the box top date has not expired!
  • Glue or tape them to the box top sheet, if you need more sheets, you may copy the sheet or use a separate sheet of paper to tape them or have the school send more home
  • DONT FORGET TO ADD YOUR CHILD’S TEACHER TO YOUR BOX TOP SHEET SO YOUR STUDENT GETS CREDIT FOR THE BOX TOPS THEY TURNED IN.  THEY WILL GO TOWARD A EARNING A CLASS PIZZA PARTY!
Due Date:  TBA
Thanks in advance for supporting our students!

MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD's TEACHER'S NAME IS ON THE SHEET
