Tiger Newsflash 12-7-15

Good morning!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend with their family and friends! Ashley and I celebrated our First Wedding Anniversary.  Wow, it is hard to believe I have been married to this great lady for one year:

We have definitely learned a lot over the last year:)

These times reminded me of the best wedding gift that I received.  This gift was of course from your children.  Feel free to CLICK HERE to check out this awesome gift, if you have not seen it yet.

Let's get back to business...I want to take moment and brag about our Fifth Grade Students.  You may or may not know, that at Columbia Elementary we require all Fifth Grade Students to complete a Capstone Project before graduating from our Elementary School.  This Capstone Project encompasses the knowledge and skills they have already learned here and allows them to connect it to their next steps in their educational journey (Middle School, High School, and College/Advanced Training).  One part of this project requires these students to go interview a Middle School and High School student.  The purpose of these interviews is to better mentally prepare our students and to develop/ improve their educational habits for  the Middle School and High School.  As we encouraged all of the students to dress up for this day, the second purpose was to give our students some interviewing experience.  We believe that transitioning from Elementary to Middle School and Middle School to High School are very important transitions. It is very important that we give the opportunities to be successful in these transitions that will affect their success in life. For these reasons, we set aside time for these students to interview some Middle School and High School Students.

Our students were impressive as they interviewed these Middle School and High School Students.  I greatly enjoyed sitting down with most of our Fifth Graders for about 20 minutes after their return to Columbia Elementary, and hearing about what they learned from this experience.  The feedback that our students gave me was very valuable. They shared with me that they had learned about why it is important to keep earning good grades, important study habits, and about the curricular and extra-curricular opportunities available in each of these schools.  Not only did they learn about these specifics but they also now know someone from these schools.  Students gave us very positive feedback about this experience, and recommended that we continue to offer such an opportunity to future 5th grade classes.  Our 5th grade students are now taking this interviewing experience, and preparing to present this information that they learned to their classmates with the use of Google Slides. We are looking forward to seeing these presentations.

We have started a Weekly Hall of Fame for our students in Reading and Math for students in Grades 2-5.  The students in this Weekly Hall of Fame have earned an overall "A" in their Reading and/or Math classes.
