12-11-16

Good evening!

I hope all of you have had a wonderful weekend with your family and friends! It has been a great weekend for me as I have been celebrating my second wedding anniversary with my beautiful wife!
Last week, was also enjoyable week at school seeing "the best and the brightest students" in action and having post evaluation observation conferences with our teachers about their instruction with your children. These were all very positive and productive conversations.  As we have a lot of activities going on the next week and a half, I want to be sure you are informed:

Please enjoy your weekly updates below:

A Special Thank You!
I want to take a moment and send a special thank you to Mrs. Melissa Davidson and our PTO for organizing our new Christmas Craft Day at Columbia Elementary. This event took place at our school this past Friday.  These ladies worked hard to get local vendors in our school to sell items to our students for the annual Secret Santa Shopping experience.  I know a lot of time went into preparing for this day on all sides (including our vendors). As I met each of our vendors and heard positive feedback from our students and teachers, I want to thank everyone for all of your efforts.

Christmas Concert-Tuesday December 13th at 6:30pm at Faith Baptist Church:

We will be holding our annual Christmas Concert next Tuesday on December 13th at Faith Baptist Church at 6:30pm.  I want you to know that parking will be available at both Twin Oak Elementary and Faith Baptist Church.  All families for students in Grades 3-5 are assigned to park at Twin Oak Elementary.  There will be a shuttle service available to take families to and from Faith Baptist Church from this parking area starting at 5:45pm and following the concert.  All families for students in Kindergarten, First, and Second Grades are assigned to park behind Faith Baptist Church.  Please note that Handicapped Parking is also available at the church.

We are requesting that all families park in their assigned areas to eliminate any traffic control problems.  Your assistance in this matter is appreciated!

We are looking forward to enjoying your children with you and your family on this special night!

Students need to be at the church no later than 6:15pm.

Wednesday is Tiger Up! Be sure to wear your Tiger Up Shirts!

Our Topic: Goal Setting and Good Decision Making

Our Objectives:
-Classroom discussion related to the purpose of setting both long term and short term goals.
-Students need to be instructed on how to write a goal and to support that goal with specific action steps for a specific time period.
-Students need to be given examples of what good short term and long term goals look like.
-Importance needs to be stressed on how the ultimate goal needs to be related to their individual decision making.
-Students need to develop just a few short term and long term personal goals (in some fashion tied to their academic and personal lives).
-Follow up on these goals would be beneficial to the student.

Reminder: We need your help supporting local adopted Christmas Families-All Gifts Due by 12/20/16

Christmas is often a season filled with wonder, joy, excitement; a season of gift giving and reaching out to others.  Sometimes families find themselves in circumstances that make this season a little more difficult.

At Columbia Elementary, our goal is to help develop our students to be well rounded; not only teaching academics but also life skills.  We are asking each class to adopt a child in our community who might find themselves in a challenging circumstance this year. This is a great opportunity to teach the kids the value of helping others.

If you would like to be a part of it, we are asking that you purchase a gift that is appropriate for the age level and gender of the child that your son/daughter’s class has been assigned.    If your child’s classroom has “adopted” a boy, please bring in a boy gift.  If your child’s classroom has “adopted” a girl, please bring in a girl gift.  Monetary gifts are welcome as well and will be used to purchase an age appropriate gift for the child.  Please do not wrap the gift; if you would like, you may send it in a garbage bag or grocery bag.  Please have the gift to your child’s classroom teacher by Tuesday, December 20th.
