Good evening! I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend with your family and friends! It is hard to believe that on Friday all of our students received their Interim Reports for the Third Nine Weeks of this school year.  As our students are progressing through the school year, it is vital that all of us keep an eye on their progress to make sure they are meeting the expectation of being "the best and the brightest!" Feel free to contact your child's teacher with any questions and/or concerns regarding their academic progress.  We can achieve excellence together! Make Up Plan for Calamity Days Since we have already used 5 calamity days, please read Mr. Seder's letter regarding MVCSD's procedure for making up the potential of our future calamity days.  Our district will be using online activities or "blizzard bags" to make up calamity days 6-8 and will be adding days to the end of the school year to make up days 9 and above.   Columbia Elementary 5th Grade Camp Information: We certainly appreciate everyone that came out on Thursday night to our Fifth Grade Camp Parent Informational Meeting with Heartland Outdoor Education School.  On this night Mr. Seder, our Superintendent, and Heartland Outdoor Education School Staff gave an introduction of the experience that our Fifth Graders district wide will be experiencing on May 7th-9th.   If you were unable to attend this meeting, please feel free to CLICK HERE on the parent presentation and see surf Heartland Outdoor Education School's Website (by Clicking Here).  Most importantly, be sure to refer to your child's "Student Packet" as the primary and most update source of information.  Each of our students should have already taken these packets home.  If you do not have one for some reason, please reach out to Mrs. Ferguson (aferguson@mvcsd.us) or Mrs. Justice (njustice@mvcsd.us) to receive another one.  Also feel free to reach them with any further questions and/or concerns.  Each year, I attend this camp with our students. I assure each of you that this experience is worthwhile for all of them. We will take care of your children and make sure they are healthy, safe, and have an awesome educational experience.  Please feel free to reach out to any of us, including myself, with any questions and/or concerns about this fantastic learning opportunity.   A special thank you to The Ariel Foundation for covering 1/2 of the cost of every MVCSD students' 5th Grade Camp Experience! Paying Forward to The Ronald McDonald House: The Ronald McDonald House at Nationwide Children's Hospital needs your pop tabs. Please be sure to bring them to our school and we will donate them for you. Your efforts are very important because The Ronald McDonald House pays their entire electric bill each month through through recycling these pop tabs. PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING:) ! Stay Connected: At Columbia Elementary, we pride ourselves on communicating with you. Check out our live and archived MV LIVE STREAM by CLICKING HERE or go to our www.mvcsd.us *We are currently exploring other ways to use this same technology.  BOX TOPS For Education: Collection All Year Long  The PTO will be collecting Box Tops for Education for our school again this year.   This is easy, free money to help support Columbia Elementary in getting supplies for our classrooms or fun treats/events for our students!  They will be hosting a competition amongst the school to see which class can collect the most box tops!  (This will be done four times this year).  Please feel free to bring in the box tops at anytime throughout the school year, and they will be applied towards your child’s classroom collection.  Each quarter, the classroom that brings in the most box tops will earn a reward.  This quarter, the willing classroom will have a PIZZA PARTY Directions: Buy products at the store that contain the box top label Cut them out following the dotted lines on all 4 sides of the label - the box top company is very strict on this! Make sure the box top date has not expired! Glue or tape them to the box top sheet, if you need more sheets, you may copy the sheet or use a separate sheet of paper to tape them or have the school send more home DONT FORGET TO ADD YOUR CHILD’S TEACHER TO YOUR BOX TOP SHEET SO YOUR STUDENT GETS CREDIT FOR THE BOX TOPS THEY TURNED IN.  THEY WILL GO TOWARD A EARNING A CLASS PIZZA PARTY!
